NATO - Defence Innovation Challenge award given to Cranfield University

For our PhD "Modelling Applications of Additive Manufacturing in Defence Support Services" carried out by Alessandro Busachi and sponsored by Babcock International Group

Mr Koen Gijsbers, NATO CI Agency General Manager, has awarded our PhD "Modelling Applications of Additive Manufacturing in Defence Support Services" sponsored by Babcock International Group, the NATO - Defence Innovation Challenge during NITEC17 and recognised our technology as "great idea for capability that NATO needs in the coming years".

Alessandro's PhD has been supervised by Dr. John Ahmet Erkoyuncu, Dr. Rich Drake, Dr. Filomeno Martina, Dr. Chris Watts and Dr. Paul Colegrove. The PhD has been chaired by Dr. Patrick McLaughlin and Dr. Essam Shehab has acted as Subject Adviser. The modelling approach has been developed by Dr. Helen Lockett and Dr. Nikolaos Tapoglou has provided support on the software development. Steve Wilding provided extensive expertise on the Defence Support Services - System of Interest (DS2-SoI) side. Dr. Jialuo Ding and multipurpose Dr. Filomeno Martina have acted as WAAM Technical Experts.
