Residual Stress, mechanical property improvement and alternative cold work integration
Work position: PhD Research Student
Category: Students

Thermo-mechanical residual stress accompanied by serious distortion are among the biggest challenges in WAAM. The concerted and strategical induction of cold work into large three-dimensional metal structures is a firm technique, which also improves the mechanical properties significantly.

The system integration of cold mechanical techniques into the WAAM manufacturing process is in Jan’s scope. Before starting his PhD in January 2015 he finished his M.Eng. at HS Koblenz (Germany), including a bachelor thesis at John Deere and Company in Mannheim and a master thesis at Airbus Group Innovations in Munich.
