Dr Jialuo Ding

Lead researcher
Work position: Principal Research Fellow in Additive Manufacture
Category: Programme leads

I am a Principle Research Fellow in Additive Manufacturing, in Cranfield University. My main research activities are process modelling and simulation for Wire + Arc Additive Manufacture (WAAM) process, software development and automation, new deposition process development and manufacturing of large scale metallic AM components.

I obtained a double MSc degree from Cranfield University (in 2007) and Beihang University of China (in 2008), and got my PhD degree from Cranfield University in 2012. I was a research fellow (until 2015) and a senior research fellow (until 2018) before I was promoted to principle research fellow.

I have led and delivered more than 40 industrial and research projects in the last 5 years though the WAAMMat programme as the lead researcher, and published more than 50 journal papers.

I am leading the process modelling team in the NEWAM project, which is focused on developing fluid flow and finite element models to assist the development of new process and new materials.

In my spare time I enjoy travelling with my family.
