João started his PhD at Cranfield University in 2019 as part of the NEWAM project. His research is focused on the development of High Deposition rate Wire + Arc Additive Manufacturing processes and made contributions to the HPWAAM and WAAMMat projects as well. He received his Bachelor's and Master's in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon (Portugal). His master thesis (2018) was entitled Non-Destructive Testing of large metal parts produced by Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing and this was his first contact with the WAAM technology. The work for his master thesis was part of a European Project (LASIMM), in which he joined as a Researcher until coming to the United Kingdom. He lived, studied, and worked in Portugal, Denmark, and United Kingdom so far. He is a hands-on person that likes to constantly challenge himself to achieve new goals.
