Work position: Research Fellow in Additive Manufacturing
Category: Researchers
João Bento is a Research Fellow in Additive Manufacturing. He finished his PhD at Cranfield University in 2024 and was part of the NEWAM project. His research focused on developing high deposition rate Wire + Arc Additive Manufacturing processes, including the Cold Wire Gas Metal Arc (CWGMA) process, and contributed to the HPWAAM and WAAMMat projects as well. He received his Bachelor's and Master's in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico, Lisbon (Portugal). His master's thesis (2018) was entitled Non-Destructive Testing of large metal parts produced by Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing, and this was his first contact with WAAM technology. The work for his master's thesis was part of a European Project (LASIMM), which he joined as a Research Assistant until coming to the United Kingdom. He has lived, studied, and worked in Portugal, Denmark, and the United Kingdom so far. He is a hands-on person who likes to constantly challenge himself to achieve new goals.
