Soumyajit Koley
Soumyajit is a metallurgist with a total 16 years of professional experiences in working with an eminent nuclear research lab as well as corporate R&D in India. He completed graduation in Metallurgical Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 2006. After that he spent 6 years as Scientific Officer in Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), India; contributing mostly to processing of advanced ceramics such as stabilized zirconia and silicon carbide. Soumyajit joined Tata Steel R&D in 2012. Since then, he has been working in welding and weldability assessment of different grades of steel including bare and zinc coated steels, armour steel, line-pipe steel, etc. He has hand-on experiences in different welding processes such as resistance spot and seam welding, laser welding, GMAW/GTAW, and plasma arc welding. Apart from that, Soumyajit is also experienced in various material characterization techniques such as microscopy (optical and electronic), XRD, dilatometry, thermos-gravimetry, etc. He has been a trained ISO Quality auditor for last 5 years.
Soumyajit is currently pursuing PhD at Cranfield University where he is trying to develop soft-magnetic alloys through wire-arc additive manufacturing route.
